Soul Legend Ike Turner Dead At Age 76

By --
Music legend Ike Turner has passed away today (Dec. 12) at age 76 in his suburban home outside San Diego.

"He did pass away this morning," Scott Hanover, of Thrill Entertainment Group, which managed Turner's musical career told the Associated Press. A cause of death has not been reported.

Turner, whose career in music spanned five decades, was as much known for his musical prowess as his familial problems, which were often referenced in rap songs, including Notorious B.I.G.'s "Machine Gun Funk."

His marriage to famed singer and musical partner Tina Turner, which ended in 1976, was allegedly an abusive one. The couple's troubles were depicted in the 1993 movie What's Love Got To Do With It?

Following the couple's split, Ike Turner released a pair of unsuccessful solo albums and served a stint in prison for drug and weapons charges.

He was inducted into the Rock & Roll hall of Fame in 1991 and released the Grammy-nominated Here & Now in 2001.

M.O.P. Work On G-Unit Debut, Solo LPs

By --

Despite signing with G-Unit in 2005, Brooklyn duo M.O.P. has yet to release an official album through the label. But Lil’ Fame and Billy Danze hope to change that this upcoming summer.

“It’s been some time since M.O.P. been out,” said Billy Danze, “so we wanna make sure everybody gets what they expect from M.O.P.”

“This [new album] right here is something serious. This is something we’ve been doing for years, and people love what we do.”

The album, rumored to be titled “Yearly Physical,” will feature beats by group member Lil’ Fame, who has recently produced tracks for AZ, Styles P, and Termanology, under the alias “Fizzy Womack.”

“We got countless music for the M.O.P. album. Lil’ Fame doing serious production across the board.”

Meanwhile Lil’ Fame and Billy Danze are also working on a heavy-metal project, and separate solo albums which may be released as mixtapes.

“We have a heavy-metal joint that we’re … putting together with a lot of different artists. … We’re doing about six or seven things, like major things, in one shot.

“If you guys are missing M.O.P., don’t worry about it, ‘cause when we send M.O.P. at you, we’re sending it to you in rolls and waves.”

Outkast’s Big Boi Finishes Up Solo Album

By --

After the success of Outkast’s double-album, “Speakerboxxx/The Love Below,” the Georgia-based duo has announced another round of solo projects and a follow-up joint album afterwards.

While Andre 3000 works on his own LP, currently untitled, Big Boi is finishing up his album, “Sir Luscious Left Foot,” with the help of long-time production team Organized Noize – who produced Outkast’s 1994 debut, “Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik.”

“It’s coming along great, man,” Big Boi recently told VIBE magazine.

“I’m going to put 12 songs on there. I’m finished with nine right now. Production is by Organized Noize. ‘Speakerboxxx’ was my first solo album, so just imagine what this is going to sound like.”

Unlike “Speakerboxxx/The Love Below,” Big Boi and Andre 3000’s solo LPs will be released separately.

The first single off of “Sir Luscious Left Foot” will be released on Dec. 31.

Drama Speaks Over Name Dispute

By --
By: Alexis Chase - Support Online Hip Hop

The DJ and artist behind both the "Gangsta Grillz" mixtapes and official Atlantic compilation of the same name, Drama explained to SOHH why he dropped the DJ prefix on his latest project.

"You know my name, I got the name for the album, it's Drama, not DJ Drama, it's just Drama," the Philadelphia native stated

Apparently another DJ Drama came forward to contest Drama's claim on the name, and after being unable to reach an agreement, Drama and Atlantic Records were forced to go another route.

"This punk @$$ dude came outta nowhere and started yapping to the label," Drama explained. "I was ready to cut him a check. I was going to cut him a nice check. I was gonna give him some money for the name, because he can't go nowhere and say DJ Drama and they think it's really him. You might as well just give up the name you not gonna be able to do nothing with it, but his punk @$$ disappeared."

Without a means to settle the dispute, Drama opted to leave the DJ part out of his name, but even that took some ironing out. Fortunately a delay in the release schedule allowed Atlantic and Drama time to procure the name he eventually ended up with.

"When my album got pushed back, if I would have had to come out there I would have had to come out as Dram or Dramatic, not Drama -- Drama I can rock with," Drama said. "Shout to the artist Drama who is incarcerated. Me and him had a conversation, he gave me the blessing to be able use the name, so you know I cut him a check."

Drama also had some choice words for the DJ behind all the drama in the first place.

"Punk @$$ dude man, you didn't even want to play ball, at least come play ball," Drama said. "Where are you gonna go and say DJ Drama? - I'll still cut you a check but it's gonna be a little one this time."

Gangsta Grillz: The Album is currently in stores.

Official Statement From Pimp C Management Regarding Rapper's Death

By --
Los Angeles, CA - Manager Rick Martin, who was on hand this morning to identify the body of client and dear friend Chad Butler aka Pimp C,offers this statement regarding today's tragic loss:

This morning saw the loss of a man that was not only a client, but a very dear friend at a time when he had the most to live for. He was my best friend and I will always love him.

Chad's tragic passing leaves behind mourners the world over, including his mother, wife and children whom Chad loved more than anything. An official cause of death has yet to be determined.

I was so very proud of Chad and the growth he has shown since his release from prison; as an artist and business man and as a person. As one half of the legendary Texas group UGK, Chad was finally seeing the results of the years of love and labor that he and Bun B have put in over the years, culminating in the tremendous success of their album, Underground Kingz. Chad was set to soar with not only a new solo deal on Jive Records, but a lucrative publishing deal, a new satellite radio show, several group projects and a national cologne endorsement. Chad had everything to live for, making his unexpected passing a travesty.

Right now, my number one concern is the well being and livelihood of his family who are the ones most deeply affected by this loss. All efforts will be made to ensure that they are properly cared for in this tragic time and beyond.

As Chad's friend and manager, and on behalf of his family and those closest to him, we ask that you, the press keep reports of his passing to tributes to his amazing contributions as an artist and wait for the facts surrounding his death to come to light. Please let us all remember Pimp C as the kind and warmhearted man and rap music pioneer that he was.

Thank you,

Rick Martin / FM2 Inc.

Prodigy Awaits Jail Sentence, ‘HNIC 2’ Album

By: Kenny Rodriguez - Nobodysmiling.com

As Prodigy gets ready to serve a jail sentence over a gun conviction, the Mobb Deep rapper recently explained his side of the story on a new blog – including accusing the police of trying to set up fellow rapper 50 Cent.

The 33-year-old rapper, born Albert Johnson, pled guilty to unlawful gun possession on Oct. 9, after police found a gun in his vehicle during a traffic stop. Since this was his third gun conviction, Prodigy faced a fifteen-year sentence.

Despite claims of an illegal search, he struck a plea bargain and his sentence was reduced to three-and-a-half years.

“I had to cop out to a 3 1/2 year sentence, otherwise I would have lost and got 15 years,” P wrote on his weblog, HNIC2.com.

“I been [through] a lot of cases. Murder cases, guns, grand theft, etc. I got away with so many crimes it’s incredible. So me doing 3 1/2 ain’t shit compared to what I deserve.”

Prodigy also accuses the police of attempting to use him to nab G-Unit artist 50 Cent.

“All night they tried to get me to set up 50 Cent,” he wrote.

“They wanted me to plant guns in his car, plant drugs, or arrange a buy-and-bust. I was shocked how many times they tried and how many different detectives and ATF agents they tried to send at me. It was crazy.”

P also spoke briefly about his long-awaited album, “HNIC 2,” describing it as “a world-changing revolutionary album.”

“Right now is the time to reveal everything to the ‘hood; I think they are hungry for information, and they demand answers to a lot of bullshit this government is pulling on us.

“That’s what I’m bringing to the table with ‘HNIC 2.’ I don’t see anybody [else] in this game that has the power to do what I’m about to do right now. There are a few big names in rap that know the information I know, and they could do it, but they conceal it and don’t speak on it ‘cause they are so wrapped up with money, fame, fashion.”

“HNIC 2” will also be accompanied by a DVD, titled “Free P,” with a music video for every song on the LP.

Prodigy begins his sentence on Jan. 9, while his album hits stores in early 2008.

Kanye West Tops Grammy Noms

By --
Michael Ivey - Nobodysmiling.com

Whether the Chi-Town representative wins or loses, the stage is set for a dramatic Grammy night 2008 as Thursday in Los Angeles it was announced that Kanye West is nominated for eight awards.

West, who in November lost his mother to complications from plastic surgery, bests English songstress Amy Winehouse, who’s ‘Back to Black’set garnered her six noms, and his ‘Graduation’ LP is up for album of the year. Other top Grammy nominees include Foo Fighters, Paul McCartney, T-Pain, Timbaland, and West’s Universal/Def Jam label-mates Jay-Z and Rihanna.

Jay-Z’s standing as CEO/President/lead hip hop act of Def Jam Records almost guarantees that he’ll leave Staples Center victorious “even in defeat.” His female equal in corporate entertainment omnipresence, Beyonce, is up for record of the year ("Irreplaceable”) next to Rihanna's Jay-Z assisted "Umbrella" and "What Goes Around Comes Around" by Justin Timberlake.

West emerged triumphant in his soundscan battle with 50 Cent, was able to muster some self deprecating humor this fall on SNL (with co-host Lebron James) and continued touring even after his beloved mother, Prof. Donda West, passed away.

Atlantic Records artists T.I. and, Jay-Z favorite, Lupe Fiasco are also nominated for Grammies. The 2008 Grammy Awards show takes place Feb. 10 at Los Angeles' Staples Center

Pimp C Found Dead In Hollywood Hotel
Wednesday, December 5, 2007
By: Kenny Rodriguez - Nobodysmiling.com

Pimp C, born Chad Butler, was found dead early Tuesday morning in a West Hollywood hotel room, as early reports say he passed away from natural causes.

Paramedics and officers responded to a 911 call placed from the Mondrian Hotel on Sunset Boulevard at about 9:30 a.m.

Upon arrival, they found Butler fully-clothed lying on a bed in a hotel room.

According to a spokesman for the county coroner, it appears Butler died of natural causes. No drugs or paraphernalia were found in the room, and it didn’t appear as if anyone had been in the vicinity when he died.

A full autopsy will be performed, and results are expected to be ready in six-to-eight weeks.

“We mourn the unexpected loss of Chad,” Jive Records president and CEO Barry Weiss said.

“He was truly a thoughtful and kindhearted person. He will be remembered for his talent and profound influence as a pioneer in bringing southern rap to the forefront.

“He will be missed, and our prayers remain with his family and Bun B. I’ve known Chad since he was 18 and we loved him dearly, and he was a cherished member of the Jive family.”

By Tuesday afternoon, the rapper’s MySpace page featured the headline: “C The Pimp Is FREE At Last,” a slogan which was popularized while Butler was incarcerated for three years due to gun charges in 2002.

Butler, who was one-half of the Texas rap duo UGK, was 33 years old.

He is survived by a wife and three children.

New Era Recalls Hats

By --

New Era Cap Co. recently recalled 100 of its hats from a Cleveland store after the company was alerted it was designing caps with logos representing local gangs.

According to The Buffalo News, New Era, which designs caps for various sports franchises, pulled the hats from the shelves of a Finish Line store in Cleveland on Saturday (June 9).

Peace in the Hood, an organization for gang prevention and intervention, reportedly discovered the hats and notified the retailer who in turn informed New Era.

"We first received reports of the hats from our outreach workers, two of them being former gang members," explained El-hajj Khalid A. Samad, executive director of Peace in the Hood. "We got together with several other groups and talked about a way to proactively address the situation."

The logos on the hats represented gangs from "Da Valley" (Garden Valley housing project), "10-5," for the 105th Street gang called Waste-5 and "HVD" for the street gang on Harvard Avenue.

"We had no knowledge the logo on our cap was a gang logo," said Gerry Matos, senior vice president of marketing for New Era Cap Co. "Once we were alerted, we immediately contacted the retailer and had the caps recalled."

Mato revealed that the company plans to take steps to ensure that it never happens again.

"We plan to work with police gang suppression units to get the names of gangs across the U.S.," Mato said. " We also have told our sales force to ask 'why' if a logo is obscure."

The recalled hats were shipped back to New Era Cap Co. and will be destroyed along with their logo designs.

Making Money Online - Google's Adsense

By --
There are many ways to make money online, but currently one of the best ways out there is to utilize Google's Adsense program. If you're reading this blog you're probably out looking to see how to make top dollar on your web site. Some people utilize Adsense due to high costs of running a website. I myself have been doing internet marketing for a few years now. I have been online since the early days of dial up modems and BBS chat rooms. The biggest winners of the Adsense game are the major websites, but some websites who started from pretty much nothing like PlentyOfFish have raked over 1 Million dollars in just two months of Google Adsense.

Here's a few tips

-Do not click on your own ads, Google is way smarter than that.
-Do not utilize Robots or Proxies for clickthru's, Google seems to be smarter than that as well.
-Ensure your ads blend in well with your website.
-Make sure you are NOT creating a website just for Adsense and actually posting relevent material. I have noticed a lot of people on Ebay selling "Adsense Websites" and they are definately nothing special.
-Use top Keywords to ensure your website has some of the best ad content. If your site is targeting insurance, then don't try and target music. Make sure you are still staying somewhat relevent.

Here's of what people are currently looking at on search engines. These are some hot keywords.

Rapping In The Bay

By --
Isolated in Northwestern Ontario can bring out the best and worst in some people. The region is an oasis of natural beauty and a very clean atmosphere. So you wonder to yourself, what are people in Thunder Bay rapping about. Well you see Thunder Bay is like any other city in North America. You have your rich folk, you have your poor folk and you have your plain old' grimy folk. The hip hop culture started to actually boom in the 1990's, but stems back to the 80's with break dancing. Hip Hop in Thunder Bay actually started to really boom in 1995 when Canadian rap started to get more exposure across the Country. A group of emcees from Toronto and Vancouver went on a cross Canada tour and decided to stop in Thunder Bay. It was titled the Rap Essentials Tour which happened in 1996 at a night club "Stages". It featured such acts as Saukrates and Choclair; these acts would later sign major label deals. As the years went on touring acts from Canada would make pit stops in Thunder Bay to collect a few extra dollars. The majority of actual shows really started to hit in 1999 when Sub Zero Entertainment hosted a regional DMC DJ Championship at the Apollo. This was the first of its kind in Thunder Bay and over 200 patrons jam packed the sweatbox of a bar the Apollo is. From there the boom really hit over the next few years with shows on a bi-monthly basis with local acts such as Maddpsyense, Rogue, Dj Wurlwind, Bravo, Wax Philosophic, and Dystrakted. DJ's were huge for the first few years, but this eventually died down and the MC was back at the forefront. Weekly MC battles at "The Zoo" would bring in crowds of upwards of 600 people and touring acts such as Naughty By Nature and 2 Live Crew would grace Thunder Bay stages. It seems that rap music isn't really a fad, and the people who know the history in the city know the people working hard to preserve it. So next time you go to a hip hop show remember that if it wasn't for a few local bar owners and a few kids trying to their favourite music popular in high school you wouldn't be seeing what you are seeing today.

King Of The Bay

I've never really got heavy into blogging until I realized the amount information I've foudn helpful from cruising them. Hip Hop is something I've loved since a child dating back to the the early days of Yo MTV Raps. It seems as if hip hop is bigger than Elvis right now and everyone is trying to get their hands involved. Capitalism is not a bad thing, I feel if you got your hussle correct you should be tenting your paper
.
I started a hip hop website back in 2004 titled
Thunder Bay Hip Hop Online, it seemed to have somewhat of a following for the local artists it featured. Due to time and hosting problems it eventually went defunt. I have been involved in the Thunder Bay Hip Hop Scene for several years now and not to toot my own horn I feel that some of it wouldn't exist without people like myself and fellow crew members.

Check out the latest version of Thunder Bay Hip Hop Online that launched back on June 1st. Tbayhiphop.com is still growing, and I will take you through my journey.
